Was a key U.S. Navy Base in Iceland, established in 1951, operating as a vital NATO surveillance and air defense hub during the Cold War.
Located on the Reykjanes peninsula, it monitored Soviet naval activity in the North Atlantic.
Although closed in 2006, the site remains operational as a NATO facility used for Arctic security and maritime patrol.
